Hi,
I'm a Moodle administrator and I'm familiar with most of Moodle but my company has a new digital services director who wants to integrate our Moodle site to push data to and from other systems that we use. He says this can all be done by using an API.
I know that Moodle has an API but that's the extent of my knowledge. I've looked at the documentation but it doesn't mean much to me at all.
Can you help me with some general questions so that I can at least have a sensible conversation with the new director about this? We don't host our own Moodle and don't have any Moodle-technical people in our team.
- What parts of Moodle does the API cover - for exchanging data with external systems?
- Can we implement API use without having direct access to the server, database or Moodle code?
- Do we need a developer to use whatever is standard in Moodle?
- How easy is it to extend the API to any part of Moodle e.g. quiz question scores, quiz results? (I'm assuming we would need a developer for this).
I'm sorry if these are really basic questions or if I've missed documentation that explains this.
